Obscure References
For Sabrina's Adventure 3: The Sapphire Quest

--

(Here are the references to the Esaka Destiny "Saga". This time around, most of them will actually refer to the second and third riffed fics, "Kusanagi's Wrath" and "The Final Struggle".)

(Part One)

The figure stepped up to her. "Give me MY black emerald! Or feel the wrath of me and my son!"
Jessie: Sabrina's Adventure 3: Sabrenagi's Wrath.
Cassy: *cracks up*
Kyo K.: *facepalms* Fic just had to be over twenty chapters.
Kyo L.: Hold on, he has a son? Who the heck slept with him?
Miyu: A hedgehog version of... um... Emiko's clone, perhaps?
Emi: *buries her face in her hands, sighs heavily*

Jessie's line obviously mentions the second fic, but Miyu's line mentions a plot point from the third fic.

(Part Seven)

Miyu: No character development? They're true lovers just because someone or something said so? Yes, they're Helena and Alex. Or... *gestures to Kyo K.* ...you know.
Kyo K.: *grimaces*

This actually references the first fic.

(Part Twelve)

Emi: Oh, yes. "Get out of my head!" *pulls out a marionette* This is sounding extremely familiar...
Kyo K.: God... damn it.
Sonia: "Sabrenagi's Wrath" continues.

From the end of the second fic.

Benimaru: He's going to make the entire world feel his wrath. So... what's next? He kidnaps one of the wives and drops them from an unfinished building that's thirty stories tall?

From the second fic.

(Part Thirteen)

Benimaru: Aww. I was waiting for the part where he punches a mirror into bits.

From the second fic.

(Part Fourteen)

Emi: I'm getting flashbacks to just about everything that the head writer did now.

Reference to the whole series, obviously.

Benimaru: Damn it, Kusanagi really did possess Kyo's body again.

From the third fic.

(Part Sixteen)

Cassy: Because, you know... pretty women are only good as hostage props.
Emi: *clears her throat*

General series reference.

James: Ladies and gentlemen... say it with me.
Everyone except Kyo K. and Benimaru: I thought that Nikaido-san had killed you!
Benimaru: It ages like a fine black mold.

From the second fic.

(Part Eighteen)

Miyuki: *chuckles* Don't worry, maybe a dumpster full of garbage will break the fall and save their lives.
Kyo K.: *facepalms* Damn it.

From the second fic.

(The references end here.)

(Part One)

Jessie: Yes, I'm pretty sure that her uncle being born came first, too.
Kyo L.: Tell that to the Joestar family.

Obviously a reference to "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure".

(Part Three)

Sonic: *as Speedy* It's only a fair fight if you let me hit you!
Manic: *as Sabretooth* This ain't ScrubQuotes, brat!

Paging ScrubQuotes! A reference to... well, the infamous Twitter account that highlights bad takes (usually) in fighting games.

Sonia: Worst Six Heroes ever. Those other Six Heroes were much better.

Reference to the BlazBlue series.

(Part Four)

Any variant of...

Everyone gasped.
Tails: *as himself, hacks*

Well, it starts in Part Four, and it's scattered around in later parts. It's a reference to the end of "Sonic Mania Adventures". (Though, everyone didn't gasp in the end of that.)

Tomoko: Hope they have bedbugs.
Miyuki: Welcome to Trump Paradise Island!

Reference to a report that alleged that the Trump Doral resort had bedbugs.

(Part Five)

"Yes! At last,I have both of the lengendary elemental emeralds, now nobody can stop me!" Sonic stepped up. "Okay, you have the emeralds, now give us our kids!"
Emi: *as Sabre, laughs, suddenly stops* Yeah, about that...
I lied, homes!

Of all the riffers, Emi oddly quotes the late Eddie Guerrero here.

Knuckles gasped. "Oh no,
Sonic, Manic: *flatly* Oh, no.
Tails: Right on cue.

This starts in Part Five, and it's occasionally seen in later parts of the riffing. Yes, it's the infamous "Oh, no" meme from the first "Sonic Adventure" game.

Axl: What? It acted like it took the freaking Dragon Star! Where's the rotating platform? Someone fight for that thing right now!

Reference to "WMAC Masters".

Kyo K.: Even though he fucking killed people?!

"Mate, you fucking killed people!" was a line that James constantly said in the later parts of "The Scar".

(Part Seven)

Miyu: Yes, probe around Sabre's body and fetch the emerald with your unwashed hands. *adjusts glasses* You must be one of the doctors that treated President James Garfield.

It's said that if the doctors left the bullet alone, Garfield may have actually survived. Turns out that probing around caused him to contract an infection that eventually contributed to his unfortunate demise.

(Part Eight)

Axl: Go buy a ring with rings. What's the problem?

Reference to the end of "Sabrina's Adventure 2: Return of Sabrina".

Tails: Even though you never kept any contact with her for the last fifteen years. Are you that brainwashed Kyo or Kira?

Reference to "A Cruel Angel's Thesis".

(Part Nine)

All: *raises their hands, speaks woodenly* Help me.

Been a while since there was an MST3K reference! This refers to the wooden delivery of the line in "Rocket Attack USA".

(Part Eleven)

Mai: *grumbles* Why did I have to be cursed with Benimaru's bad luck? I should have never said that I was used to a bit of bad luck. My own sentences are coming back to haunt me.

These were the sentences that Mai said after she and her group finished riffing "Closing Time" back in Season 7:
"Honestly... I wouldn't mind riffing another bad fic. Good fics are hard to riff."
"Oh, well. I'm used to a bit of bad luck."
Considering that she's riffed on nothing decent since then (except maybe "The Scar" which had visible improvement as the fic went on), it did come back to haunt her. And when you consider what happens to her (and Benimaru) in Parts Twenty and Twenty-One... yes, her luck is incredibly terrible.

(Part Twelve)

Sonia: So... we're not going to check if Sabre's fully dead? Or capture him? Anything? What is this, the ending that came from "Streets of Rage"?

Yes, let's just leave the boss of a corrupt organization lying there. Surely, he won't come back for the sequel... which... you know, he did.

(Part Fourteen)

Emi: To quote a certain seal with a lime slice on her head... "Heck him up!"

Hello, friends! Emi's referencing Limealicious, Vinesauce's resident ferret lady.

(Part Fifteen)

Tails: She'd sue this fic.
Sonic: Sue a fic? Tails, she's not Anne--
Sonia: Don't say the name, Sonic! Just... don't. Please.

There's a reason Sonic isn't allowed to finish the name. She's been notorious for suing fanfic authors in the past.

(Part Sixteen)

James: I am the fucking strong.

Reference to the ridiculous "Duwang" translations of "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure", specifically Part 4's shoddy translation.

James: *singing* Here we are, born to the king...

A lyric from Queen's "Princes of the Universe".

Kyo L., Jessie, Cassy: One day...

Callback to "Slash".

"Your body is mine!"
Akiko: Bodega.

Kyo K.'s rather well-known chain punches usually begin with "Body ga...". However, the KOF fandom jokingly hears it as "Bodega".

(Part Eighteen)

Axl: Okay, who would just smash through the 100th floor? In broad daylight? And there's no people in the building to see that?
Kyo K.:
I'm going to say it again... some secret agent. This makes Shadow Yamoto's shoving death look a lot less stupid.
Axl: I thought that was because she was the worst secretive whistleblower ever.

Reference to Shadow Yamato's backstory in the "Eternal Champions" games.

Kyo K.: Yeah, nothing says "protagonist" like wrecking a natural rock formation.
Sonia: She's going to grow up to become a Boy Scout leader.

Yes, former Boy Scout leaders was charged for toppling an ancient rock formation in Utah's Goblin Valley State Park.

(Part Nineteen)

Kyo K.: So they really are spiky lemmings.

Callback to "The New Girl" (the Season 7 riffing) where Sonic and Amy jumped out of a window, prompting Kyo K. to call them spiky lemmings.

Amy: Again with the tripping. What is this, Smash Bros. Brawl?

Rather self-explanatory. It was quite an unpopular mechanic, which is why it was gone when the next Smash game came out.

She got in and put on her air necklace, which helps her breathe underwater.
Rory: She stole that from Knuckles!

It is indeed an item that Knuckles can use in "Sonic Adventure 2".

(Part Twenty-Three)

The guardian soul taps her staff onto the ground, causing the scenery to instantly change.
Rory: Tengu? Is that you?

In "Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate", Tengu can actually change the scenery of the stage that you fight him on. It's pretty, but also pretty darn blinding.
