Mystery Science Theater En Masse
Riffer Collab Obscure References
For Season Four
--
Four Riffers, Episode 1: Tohru's big birthday BASH
(Riffers: Sonic, Kyo L., Kyo K., Axl)
Sonic: You all are going to hate me for this, but... *sings* I have an appetite for sex, 'cause me so horny--
Reference to the 2 Live Crew song, "Me So Horny"... which should be pretty obvious by what Sonic's singing.
Kyo K.: After what I just read with Beni and the girls, I'm not in the mood
to look at anything
that is or looks phallic.
Kyo L.: *slowly licks a popsicle in front of Kyo K.*
Kyo K.: *smacks the popsicle out of Kyo L.'s hand* What the hell did I
just say, Fox Clone?
Callback to "Annie/Jack".
Axl: Come on, do what most girls do to celebrate their virginity... like auction it off!
This reference should be obvious... it's been happening lately.
Kyo L.: This makes me want to rip off a prostitute Secret Service style.
Reference to a recent meeting between a Secret service member and a Colombian prostitute. Specifically, there was an agreement that the agent would pay the prostitute $800 for her services, but he tried to give her $30 instead.
Kyo L.: And why did I just think about Akuma for a moment there...?
Callback to Akuma's odd speech patterns in "The attack of Akuma".
Two Riffers, Episode 1: Bloody Moon
(Riffers: Sonia and Manic)
(Part One)
Sonia: Painting the canvas black is not
"art".
Manic: But setting a $100,000 handbag on fire does the trick.
Sonia: That's not art, either; that's being a moron.
In reference to Francesca Eastwood actually doing that... well, just because. Cue the angry people. (No, really. Understandable anger.)
Manic: Big McLargeHuge?
Sonia: Roll Fizzlebeef?
Referring to the many names of David Ryder that Mike and the Bots gave him from "Space Mutiny". (Actually, those were two of the writer's favorite random nicknames.)
Manic: To what? About how "emo" she is? Maybe we can talk about eating Count Chocula with blood next!
Yet another "My Immortal" reference.
Manic: Oh, here we go with that stupid "dusty" adjective again...
Callback to "The White Hedgehog". We're still looking for that "dusty" pink crescent.
Manic: *as Jacob* I'm actually a broom.
Reference to the "Family Guy" episode "Fifteen Minutes of Shame".
Manic: Yeah, I think we can tell. First you give me a Pikachu missile moment, and now you give me this.
Another reference to the episode "Electric Soldier Porygon"... by the way, the infamous seizures were caused by Pikachu, not Porygon. (Porygon only got the blame because it was the main focus of the episode, obviously.)
Sonia: That was before he suckled it harder than the child on that horrid "Time" cover.
Are you mom enough? Yes, that was the cover from a May 2012 issue of Time Magazine. People wouldn't quit showing that stupid cover on TV.
(Part Two)
Manic: *as Edward* Thy cannot possibly love thou the way thy do!
Reference to "Forbiden Fruit: The Temptation of Edward Cullen".
Manic: What the hell do you think he's doing, you motherfuker?
until someone stepped into the room
it was…
Manic: ...Volsemort and da Death Dealers!
References to "My Immortal".
Sonia: Did he get his insults from the Kyo Kusanagi School of Swearing?
Manic: Kusanagi? Emi? Get outta there! We're reading a different badfic here!
Callback to the "Esaka Destiny 'Saga'" as a whole, but Sonia and Manic are actually referencing "A Story of Destined Love" (mainly because that's the only fic that they riffed on from the "trilogy").
Manic: It's kinda odd considering all of that "Grrrl Powah!" that she
was spouting earlier... but the nearly being raped thing gets a pass.
Sonia: Of course it does. Take note, Serenity.
Callback to "Defying Destiny". Specifically... how Serenity was so calm when someone tried to rape her.
Sonia: Yes. Yes, I do. I also want to throw an iced scallop at her face.
Reference to the 10th season of "Hell's Kitchen". Early in the second episode, Royce gets beaned by that same thing (by accident). Viewers... cheered. No, really. That's what happens when you whine about being unable to find anchovies and accuse your own team members of sabotage.
(Part Three)
Sonia: I hope that you'll change your writing style into something that is more readable.
Reference to the slogan used by Barack Obama for his 2008 Presidential Campaign. Obviously.
Manic: And that's how babby is formed!
Reference to the infamous Yahoo! Answers question, "How is babby formed?"
Sonia: Seriously, all of these contradictions make me want to break another table with my head.
Reference to "Killing Time", where Sonia does exactly that.
(Part Four)
Manic: Is she working for Capcom right now?
Reference to the "Street Fighter x Tekken" DLC fiasco. Specifically, the moronic fanboys that defended the horrible practice. No wonder it bombed.
Manic: And then he hid himself while he resurrected himself!
Reference to Zero's random resurrection in "Megaman X6". ("I hid myself while I tried to repair myself.")
(Part Five)
Manic: And that was before she pulled an Olivia Munn. Only... replace
the hotdogs with--
Sonia: Manic!
Manic: What? Besides, that's probably how she--
Sonia: Rant for another day, Manic!
Reference to the hotdog act from "Attack of The Show". Of course, Manic also believes that she became a "Daily Show" correspondent due to... well, fanboy reasons.
Sonia: Oh, great. Now we have the infamous "Gamer Grrrl" syndrome.
Manic: Ladies? If you're gonna impress me with your gaming, find something
that isn't Halo or Call of Duty. 'Kay? Okay.
Shouldn't really be obscure, but I'll mention it anyway. I, the writer of MST 'EM, enjoys video games herself. And yes, even I am tired of all of the "Gamer Grrrls" who claim that they're awesome by playing a bunch of First Person Shooters. (Not to offend those who legitimately enjoy them, I'm just referencing those who want to jump on a bandwagon for attention.)
Manic: We'll be okay if you don't try to publish it.
Reference to how the "50 Shades" series became popular. For those who didn't know, it was originally "Twilight" fanfiction. The names were changed, and boom, it's now huge. I'm dead serious.
(Part Six)
Sonia: I already shot somebody named Kat. She's roasting in Hell where she belongs, thank you very much.
Callback to the "A Story of Destined Love" riffing, where Emi questions the Egg Spiral hedgehogs about Kathryn. Sonia's riff confirms what happened to her, if you don't remember.
(Part Seven)
Manic: And then Loopadin was a zombie.
Another "DOOM: Repercussions of Evil" reference.
Sonia: Kathryn... please suck a railroad spike.
Reference to this actual line from "The White Hedgehog"... "He cursed himself for comparing her to Sally. She was nothing compared to Sally, she was better then Sally."
Manic: But it certainly will go on and on...
Reference to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On", best known as "That Theme from Titanic" (the 1997 film, obviously). Sure, the song was overplayed... hence Sonia threatening to hit her brother with a frying pan.
Sonia: Be more specific. Axel...
Manic: Stone.
The name might be obsure, but the series may not be. He's one of the main characters from the "Streets of Rage" series.
Manic: It's just as stupid as that crap from that special we did; always
one sex scene followed by one rape scene. Same happened in the last special,
too.
Sonia: But we didn't riff the last special fic, Manic.
Manic: I know... Cassy spilled the beans about that riffing to
me the other day.
Manic: *clears his throat, reads* And besides, if I
can't have you... then I have no other choice but to kill you along with him.
Sonia: Where did you get that line from?
Manic: That fic that Cassy riffed without us.
Yes, Sonia and Manic weren't present in the "Kusanagi's Wrath" riffing. The line that Manic read was an actual line from the fic itself.
(Part Eight)
Manic: *sings* I get by with a little help from my friends...
Reference to The Beatles song, "With A Little Help From My Friends".
Sonia: Just like the last five "winners" of "American Idol"!
In case you didn't know... from seasons 7-11, the last five winners were all guys with guitars. There's also a slang term for the show, "WGWG", which stands for "White Guy With Guitar".
(Part Nine)
the point is... who am i fighting 4?
Manic: I don't know, Zero.
Reference to the infamous line from "Megaman X4".
(Part Ten)
Sonia: I'm getting sleepy!
Manic: I feel asleep!
Reference to the infamous typo in "Metal Gear".
Four Riffers, Episode 2: 10 Reasons Women Don't Listen to Men
(Riffers: Amy, Miyu, Benimaru, James)
James: Calm down, Dana. I don't need those caps in my face.
Reference to the 10th season of "Hell's Kitchen". Watch some of the later episodes, and you'll probably be entertained or irritated by Dana yelling into the Confession Cam/Talking Heads.
James: Okay... so I was mostly wrong about that last one. How long
before Paul and I become emasculated, huh?
Benimaru: Who the heck is Paul? My name's Benimaru.
James: Oh. Right.
Reference to Paul Phoenix's hairstyle from the "Tekken" series. What makes this riff even dumber is the fact that Benimaru's hair is usually down when he is riffing.
James: Hey, Miyu. Want to know what Mai said about
published nonsense once?
Miyu: What's that?
James: *takes the book from Miyu and throws it away* Trash is trash, no
matter what country it's from.
Callback to "Why Most Twilight Fans Kinda Suck". Mai actually said that line word for word.
Three Riffers, Episode 1: RuSa Drabble
(Riffers: Emi, Keiko, Mai)
Mai: Then explain Sapphire, you moronic waste
of human flesh!
Keiko: Thank you, Shuma Gorath.
Reference to what Shuma Gorath says if he wins a match... "Waste of flesh."
Mai: You... you prayed a death wish? What kind of heartless person are you?! And scratch that moving bullet train; you deserve to be Kazuya Mishima'd right now!
Possibly going to be a slang term now; "Kazuya Mishima'd" references the infamous incident where we has thrown into a volcano.
Emi: Oh, I hear that... *takes out a list and reads
from it* Shyloh, Symphony Callestro, Piper Weiss, Diana Vilibert, Serenity
Winter, Gadchet, Kathryn, Erin Meanley, Julia Austin, Primavera Verde,
Joan/Erin, Sabrina, Kaori, Sapphra, Diane Oatis, Jill Smokler, Lenobia, and
Julie Spira are all available. They're whiny, biased, selfish, hypocritical, or
all of the above; maybe she can go talk to any of them.
Mai: *blinks* Uh... okay...
Keiko: That... was a long list. Where did you get all those names from?
Emi: *shifts her eyes as she puts the list away* Just references, really.
It's a huge reference, because Emi... has called back every whiny character or article writer from this series up to this point. It's a callback to seventeen different riffings (Erin Meanley and Julia Austin's articles are from the same riffed episode, if you don't remember or know).
Mai: She's going to end up on Route 80 in New Jersey one day. Oh, and if she smells like gasoline... make sure that you have a source of fire with you.
Reference to a "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong" segment. Just omit the fire portion for the reference.
Three Riffers, Episode 2: Sonic High School
(Riffers: Jessie, Cassy, Rory)
Cassy: Part 8,675,309...
Look at that number closely. Read it without the commas. Give up? If you did, Cassy's referencing the infamous Tommy Tutone song (also known as "Jenny" to some).
Rory: Sonic, Axel, and Blaze? Sounds like one huge Sega fest here. When's Ristar coming over?
"Streets of Rage" (when Rory references Axel and Blaze) and "Ristar" are also Sega franchises. Obscure but memorable to some.
Jessie: Mmm, Kyo Kusanagi the Hedgehog is pissed.
Yet another reference to his constant cursing in the Esaka Destiny "Saga". In the case of Jessie, she's specifically referencing "Kusanagi's Wrath".
Jessie: *as Patsy Stone* Yeah, cheers. Thanks a lot. *drinks her cocktail*
Reference to the "Absolutely Fabulous" character.
Cassy: Shyloh, Sky, Sabrina, Jade, and Sunshine? What're they doing here?
Reference to the following riffed fics (yes, in that order): "Meet Shyloh", "Sky Blue", "Sabrina's Adventure", "Always You", and a very tiny part of "New Girl!?" respectively. All of the girls that Cassy referenced had some sort of love connection to Shadow in their respective fics.
Rory: Just let me watch my comedies on ABC, okay? Yeah, thanks.
Aside from the reference to "Thank God It's Friday", Rory is actually referencing the "TGIF" comedy block that used to air on ABC.
