Mystery Science Theater En Masse

Behind The Scenes: Season Four

--

M31/C03 - Annie/Jack

It's kind of funny that this was the first original erotica fiction that I've ever riffed, so naturally, it had to go to the Neo Esaka members, who do specialize in these kinds of things.

Now, about the story... the only problem I had with it were the odd sex descriptions.

But hey, at least this riffing was mostly headache free.

M32/401 - Tohru's big birthday BASH

This fic has been in my badfic collection since I was in high school (my sister stumbled upon it and showed it to me). I don't know why it took a while to get to riffing this since I remembered it so well. Heck, if the Neo Esaka and Crazy Train members didn't exist, it obviously would've gone to the Black Crow without any questions.

A part of me feels like you don't even really need to know the Fruits Basket canon to touch this thing. And considering that I don't know anything about that series, that's probably going to be the only badfic from that fandom that I'll even touch.

M33/B12 - New Girl!?

This fic was disturbing. Seriously disturbing. And to think that (at the time)... this whole thing was written by a nine or ten year old really speaks volumes.

However, I don't know if I can officially consider Rina a Mary Sue, since she was... well, just there. Sunshine and Veena annoyed me a bit more due to their bland muppet personalities, though.

M34/A12 - Your Love Life at Work

Well, these weren't the worst articles that were riffed, but they still raise a few questions. I mean, why can't guys tell a girl that she may or may not look fat in that dress if she asks? (Yes, as a female, I don't understand this stupid "trick" question, either.)

And why can't writers capitalize or spell their titles properly? I can confess to having a few problems figuring out where some commas and hyphens should go, but come on... these are paid writers. (And hey, I may have a chance in article land if these are today's standards.)

M35/D03 - Why Most Twilight Fans Kinda Suck

By the way these things were written, it sounded like they should've gone to the Black Crow. But hey, this group's usually a "wild card" of sorts, so they do have the ability to riff anything they want.

But yeah, what can I say? I just wish that this is/was a troll, that's all. Nothing special here.

M36/201 - Bloody Moon

It's just another poorly done "My Immortal" clone. That's basically it. Ignoring that fact, I've decided to experiment and have Sonia and Manic tackle the entire thing. Apparently, they do cancel each other out in riffing styles, so it's usually a good dynamic in my opinion. (That, and the bias of having the two favorite riffers riff together does wonders.)

M37/402 - 10 Reasons Women Don't Listen to Men

Well, I can say that there was only one part of the list that was accurate. Thank you, Lenore Edwards.

And no thanks to M. Hill and Julie Spira (especially Julie Spira), who shows how superficial and shallow some of us women are.

M38/301 - RuSa Drabble

Cammy's a real piece of work, isn't she? Yeah, no wonder she's the worst person for this season. No, she's technically not a Sue (but the fact that she hogs the spotlight when the fic was supposed to be a oneshot about Ruby and Sapphire only speaks volumes), but she is incredibly toxic, disgusting, horrid, atrocious... and a whole lot of other synonyms.

Honestly, what can I say that hasn't been said by Emi, Keiko, or Mai already? She's one of the worst characters that I have ever had the misfortune to read about. This fic served no point, purpose, or substance at all! At all! All it did was show how big of a bitch Cammy was! It also touched a rather personal nerve with me (which I will not talk about since this isn't "The Therapy Hour") due to her "holier than thou" attitude in which she believed that her problems were bigger than eveyone else's.

No offense to aquakirbyyoshi (the author), but seriously... Cammy can go back to the depths of Hell and stay there.

M39/302 - Sonic High School

Before I begin, I would like to say that I am not the biggest Amy Rose fan. Yes, Amy is a "MST 'EM" riffer, but she's actually "watered down" a bit, as you all can tell. She's a little older here (at 14), and she still retains her crush on Sonic which is obviously still unrequited.

Yes, I do enjoy playing as Amy in some games (specifically the "Sonic Advance" series). However, I play as Tails more because he's my favorite Sonic character... but I digress.

I absolutely hated how they turned her into a foaming, delusional psychopath in "Sonic Battle". (It's shown in Rouge's and Knuckles's chapters, but obviously fullblown in Amy's own chapter.)

Now... with that being said...

I didn't see Amy as the bad guy at all. All I saw was a whiny Sonic with a giant cursing complex and the insane "Sonic Battle" version of Amy. We were supposed to feel sorry for Sonic. But I didn't see that, either. I actually felt sorry for Amy because Sonic told her to drop dead!

I actually detest fics that dictate how I'm supposed to feel about the characters. It just makes me hate the "hero" or "heroine" even more. It's like "Twilight"; I was supposed to feel sorry for Bella whenever something bad happened to her. But I didn't, because she's a horrible, selfish person (in my opinion). Yes, I actually cheered when Leah told her off, because she deserved it (again, in my opinion). The same applied to this fic. And in my opinion, Sonic is a whiny person -- er, hedgehog.

M40/S05 - The Final Struggle

Well, isn't the title ironic in my case. Every time I tried to start the riffing on this thing, something always had to come up... (bathroom break, spilled a bowl of cereal and had to clean it up, got distracted because the neighbors were blaring that horrendous rap music... at midnight! And two in the morning!)

Now, about the fic itself... I think this is my weakest riffing overall. I know I wanted to use this fic to finish the unfinished trilogy out, but it was a little tough to write riffs for the thing... because nothing really happened. Yeah, "Kusanagi's Wrath" also lacked a plot, but it was semi-exciting (and stupid) filler nonsense. This just had people talking... and talking... and talking.

No wonder Rory was bored senseless.
