Four Riffers, Episode 3: Love With Good Taste (Part Three)

Chapter 3

After the meeting was over we headed back to the Pokémon center to find Pearl.

All: *rubbing their necks* Ouch!

The meeting went well but I was nervous about one thing.

Sonia: Oh, that's natural for every woman. Of course, we have to deal with it once a month.
Benimaru, Miyuki, Tomoko: *stares at Sonia*
Sonia: Oh, so it's not that thing. Oh. Sorry.

The president told Cilan to come back to Kanto with me and meet Professor Oak and learn a little bit about the Kanto region so it looks like Cilan will be with me for a while now. I was so happy but at the same time freaking out.

Tomoko: *heavily sighs* Oh, my god! Just say that you want to have his kids! What are you, twelve?!
Miyuki: *with a laptop* Nope. According to her bio, she's eighteen.
Tomoko: *with a blank look on her face* You've got to be kidding me.

"You okay?" Cilan asked. "Oh just fine peachy in fact life is great!" I awkwardly replied. Cilan just laughed which made me smile. He was just so understanding.

Benimaru: No, he wasn't! He doesn't know, so how the heck could he be "understanding"?
Sonia: Sue logic. Oddly, she's only shown cliché Sue traits without being a full-blown Sue so far.

"So how did it go guys?" Pearl asked, "Went well it looks like I will be with you guys for a while now." Cilan replied. "Yes" I smiled back; Pearl gave me an intriguing look.

Miyuki: Come on, Topaz. You know you want to get rid of that proverbial third wheel.

"So where are we headed?" Pearl asked. "Well you see one of the main reasons I came here was so I could go to Opelucid city to see how the people live with the dragon Pokémon." I replied, "Yes it is true that Opelucid city is a one of a kind place, I was hoping to get there sometime myself" Cilan added. "So I guess that is where we are going?" Pearl asked. "If that is what everyone wants" I smiled. "It seems to be, so shall we head out then?" Cilan asked. We all agreed and then headed out of Striaton City.

Tomoko: *wearing a dunce cap* No, I don't think that they want to go to Opelucid City.
Miyuki: *also wearing a dunce cap* I'm starting to agree with you on that, Tomoko.
Benimaru: Two hours later, they made it. No, I'm kidding.

It had been a few weeks of traveling and we were having a great time.

All: Ow, my neck!
Sonia: That is it! I'm ordering a neck brace!

Pearl seemed to be getting along with Cilan better however he was acting a little short with me.

Tomoko: Maybe it's because you kept talking about how wet you got around Cilan and ignored Pearl, you stupid ninny!

"Lunch is ready" Cilan chimed. "Awesome let's eat" Pearl jumped out and ran to the table. "Everyone come on out" I then threw all of the Pokeballs into the air. All of my Pokémon were released and then ran to the food… All except Jumpluff. "You okay?" I asked, Jumpluff turned to look at me and was looking quite out of it. "Jump… Luff" Jumpluff spoke quite weakly. I reached out to feel its forehead and it was burning up. "Cilan Pearl I think that Jumpluff is sick" I called out. "Oh no let me see" Cilan replied as he then ran over to me.

Benimaru: *woodenly* Oh, the emotion. This poor Pokémon is ill. I don't know if it will ever make it.
Miyuki: And so there was a dry eye in the house. *notices that everyone else is indifferent* Plenty of dry eyes, actually.

He then felt the forehead of my Jumpluff as he then turned to look at me. "It does seem to have a fever… Let me put something together" Cilan smiled at me and I felt myself blush.

Tomoko: *mops Topaz up* This girl is so selfish. Putting herself before her sick Pokémon...
Sonia: *holds a bucket* I know, Tomoko. I know.

I held Jumpluff in my arms as Cilan begun to put something together. I kept changing the cool compress on its forehead but the fever hadn't come down. "I'm done" Cilan replied as he then came over to me with a bowl and a spoon, he then started to feed it to Jumpluff. She then let out a little coo; I was relieved to see that she was eating something.

Sonia: Wait, Jumpluff is a floating cotton ball of sorts. When did cotton balls coo?
Miyuki: You didn't know? They had a news report on it and everything.

"Jumpluff should be okay after a nights rest" Cilan replied as he placed his hand on my shoulder. I felt myself blush again as Cilan continued to smile at me.

All: *sighs in annoyance*

It had been over 24 hours but it looked like Jumpluff was still quite sick,

All: Ow, my neck!

we had headed out to a Pokémon center and had Nurse Joy take a look at it. She said it was not good. We were all seated in the waiting area, I was panicking due to the fact there was nothing I could do.

Benimaru: *as Topaz* Except gush over Cilan. There was plenty to do in that regard.

"Topaz please come to room 213" A voice on the intercom spoke.

Tomoko: I hope that's where Jigsaw is.

"Would you like us to come with you?" Cilan asked.

Miyuki, Tomoko: *snickering quietly*
Sonia: *shakes her head* Oh, come on.

"No it's okay I think I should go alone" I replied as I then walked to the room. "Topaz it looks like Jumpluff will be okay but I don't think that you should have Jumpluff travel with you anymore, it may be prone to happening again and if it does then I can't make any promises." Nurse Joy explained, I felt tears well up in my eyes. "I understand" I replied as I handed the Pokeball to Nurse Joy. "Where would you like me to transfer it?" Nurse Joy asked. "Professor Oak's lab" I replied. 'I understand, please take care" I then said my goodbyes to Jumpluff as I then ran out of the room.

Benimaru: *woodenly, holds a box of tissues* This is such a tear jerking scene.

"Topaz?" Cilan and Pearl both questioned as I then ran out of the Hospital. I continued to run until I came to a stop in front of a tree.

Sonia: Unfortunately, she didn't know when to stop, so she just smacked right into it.

"Topaz are you okay?" I heard Cilan panting. "Cilan you came after me?" I asked,

Miyuki: *grins widely*
Tomoko: Oh, my-- *laughs*

"Of course I was worried about you." Cilan spoke with concern. "I have to send Jumpluff to Professor Oak… So we won't be able to stay together…" Tears fell from my eyes as I felt arms wrapped around me.

Sonia: I don't know why she is making this more dramatic than it already is. Is it sad? Of course it is. But is it this sad? No.
Tomoko: She's making it sound like it's dying. What the hell?

"Cilan?" I questioned as I felt him hug me tighter. "I'm sorry Topaz…" Cilan whispered to me. "I will be okay… Just promise me… You will stay with me" I spoke without thinking, then after realizing what I had said turned bright red. "I won't leave you… I promise" Cilan then faced me and smiled. "Cilan I uh… I think that I" I was cut off my Pearl's voice. "What's going on?" Pearl questioned as he ran to us. We then explained about Jumpluff, Pearl was sad but then again he was always good at cheering me up. Even knowing I had to say goodbye to a good friend I still had these two… And Cilan… I really hope he keeps his promise… Cilan… I love you.

All: *eating cheese*
Benimaru: There are so many wonderful clichés here. I mean, she almost confesses her love to the guy, then the "third wheel" comes in and interrupts. Can't get any more cookie cutter than that.

It had been over a week since I said my farewells to Jumpluff.

Benimaru: *wearing a neck brace* This is really putting a dent in my appearance here.
Sonia: *angrily tugs at her hair* Misty left her Horsea at the Cerulean Gym because it was homesick. She eventually returned to see it and resume her duties as a Gym Leader. You can see your Jumpluff when you return to Kanto, you dramatic little gnat! How many times do I have to say that?!
Tomoko: Enough for you to have a heart attack in the middle of this thing, Hedgehog.

I had talked to Professor Oak and he said that Jumpluff was looking better and was getting along with the other Pokémon and I was so relieved.

Miyuki: Uh... what other Pokémon? And don't say Ash's, because we're in Special.

Cilan was fixing lunch as usual and Pearl was sitting at the table complaining on how it was taking too long. So pretty much the usual, however I was practicing a new move with Bulbasaur.

Tomoko: Because that's the only Pokémon in her party that's able to battle. The others are just too cute.

I was trying to teach it sweet sent, which was more difficult then I thought.

Benimaru: Of course it's difficult; the "Sweet Sent" technique doesn't exist. And on that note, just why are you teaching that poor Pokémon imaginary techniques?
Sonia: If her Bulbasaur learns it randomly in a battle, I'm going to strangle her with Tomoko's chains.
Tomoko: *smirks* I like your style.

"Come on Bulbasaur sweet sent shouldn't be that hard after all you just need to smell good right?" I laughed.

Miyuki: *throws tomatoes at the screen* Boo! Get off the stage!

Bulbasaur tried once again and a pink miasma surrounded everyone.

Tomoko: What the hell's a "miasma"?
Benimaru: *with a dictionary, reads* It's a vaporous exhalation formerly believed to cause disease or an influence or atmosphere that tends to deplete or corrupt. *closes the dictionary* And I think that my hair may be turning purple again.

It smelt so amazing I was so proud of my little Bulbasaur. "You did it you learned sweet sent!" I jumped up and spun Bulbasaur around.

Sonia: Sadly... that was even worse. The gnat and her pals can do everything with no effort at all!

Just then there was a shaking in the bushes and a little Pokémon came out. It was an Emolga I believe and it was such a cutie.

Tomoko: *angry* Oh, my god!
Sonia, Benimaru, Miyuki: God's unavailable. Leave a message.

"Hey it's an Emolga you don't see those very often" Cilan commented.

Sonia: *with her Nintendo DS* Oh, I know. Stupid Audino. At least they give out a handful of experience points, though.

"SO CUTE!" I cried out as Emolga gave me a weird look.

Miyuki, Tomoko: *vomits in their paper bags*
Sonia, Benimaru: *cringes*
Benimaru: That cute overload again. Jeez.

It then walked up to Bulbasaur and started to cling to it. "I guess it must have been drawn here by sweet sent" Pearl stated. "I believe you are right, after all most wild Pokémon are drawn by the sent." Cilan agreed,

Sonia: *grabs a red pen* Where are the "C"s?! And where are all the commas in the dialogue?!
Miyuki: *whispers to Benimaru and Tomoko* I don't want to answer her. I'm afraid that she'll kill me.
Benimaru: *looks at Sonia adding commas in a rage* Good idea. Sonic said that she can get a little out of control with corrections, as you can plainly see here.

"Would you like some food?" I asked. The Emolga looked at me and smiled as I handed it a bowl of Pokémon food. Emolga started eating it like it had never seen food before. "Are you going to catch it?" Cilan asked.

Tomoko: Yes, because it's cute. Oh, the effort.

"Oh this should be fun, sit back and relax Cilan because watching Topaz catch a Pokémon is amusing." Pearl laughed. "I HEARD THAT!" I belted back. "How am I wrong?" Pearl gave me his usual grin. "I will show you I can catch a Pokémon like a normal trainer."

Benimaru: Well, she's not a normal human, I'll give you that.

I argued as I pulled out my Pokeball and threw it. "Go Minccino," I called out as Minccino emerged from the Pokeball. "Min min" Minccino spoke as she got prepared for battle. "Sorry Emolga but I have something to prove and you are adorable." I spoke as Emolga faced me ready for battle.

All: We know that it's cute, you broken record!

"Minccino use hyper voice" I commanded as Minccino rolled its ears inwards and a powerful blast came from its mouth.

Sonia: Wait, she couldn't remember the moves of her starter. How can she remember the moves of her Minccino?
Tomoko: Brain cells come and go, Hedgehog.

Emolga flew up to dodge it, I had forgotten that it was a flying type as well; clearly this wasn't going to work.

Benimaru: *rubs his head* Oh, boy. Sonia, your take on this?
Sonia: We're working with anime and manga battling here. She could've asked her Minncino to aim it properly.
Benimaru: So... she's a crappy battler.
Sonia: Yes. She is a crappy battler. That's been established earlier.

"Return Minccino" I called out as I held the Pokeball out and Minccino returned to the ball. "Go Jigglypuff" I called out as she jumped out from the ball.

Miyuki: *woodenly* What emotion.

"I know you are not used to battling but you are strong and I believe in you!" I cheered as Jigglypuff removed its bow and faced Emolga.

Tomoko: Yadda, yadda, yadda. Believe in yourself and yadda, yadda, yadda.

"Use ice beam" I commanded as the beam of ice strike Emolga and resulting in a critical hit.

Benimaru: What the... wait, is that logical here?
Sonia: Yes, Jigglypuff can learn Ice Beam via TM. What I don't understand is how she got a convenient critical hit... or how she knew that she had a critical hit, for that matter.
Benimaru: It's simple, Sonia. She's the cheating computer.

After all ice attacks are strong against flying types.

Sonia: Shut up, Captain Obvious.

Emolga then used discharge and I then had Jigglypuff use psychic as the electric attack was sent back at the wild Emolga. Emolga was then sent flying backwards, as it attempted to get up Pearl called out to me. "Finish it off!"

Miyuki: Thank you, Shao Kahn.

"I don't want to hurt it anymore" I cried out.

Tomoko: *heavily rolls her eyes* Wow. I thought that I just saw my brain for a moment there.
Benimaru: That... is some heavy eye rolling.

"Idiot they are Pokémon they can handle it" Pearl shouted back. "Just do what seems right, you will always have a good flavor" Cilan cheered me on. I had to do my best,

Sonia: And of course, she only listens to the love interest. I hate her.

"Jigglypuff use sing" I called out.

All: *facepalms*

"NOT SING!" Pearl cried out. I knew what would happen but this would be my best shot.

Miyuki: I hope that her Jigglypuff scribbles on her face after this.

As Jigglypuff began to sing I reached out for the ball, feeling a little sleepy I threw the ball and then collapsed to the ground as my eyes just gave in.

Tomoko: And then she fell off of a cliff. Fic's over!
Sonia, Benimaru, Miyuki: You wish.
