Since I had a motherboard (an old A-Trend ATC-6240) that had issues with random rebooting (while trying to install a new OS and in general) and freezing since 2006, and sure enough, they had bulging caps lining the Slot 1 CPU slot. I was initially going to throw it out! Those have since been replaced with my limited soldering skills. A BIOS update was required to support my two 40GB notebook drives. They now run four operating systems: Windows 98 Standard/Upgrade, Windows 98 Second, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 Professional using Grub4Dos as the bootloader. I was wondering why my younger sister's old desktop computer kept restarting and freezing randomly since 2006, and this site has confirmed it. I was originally going to throw it out if I couldn't fix this issue. The motherboard, an A-Trend ATC-6240 R03 which is from my sister's old desktop, had bad capacitors. I only replaced the bulging ones, though. However, it works well again and it is just experimental so far. My family and I have owned a total of 14 computers, the oldest one being an Acer Aspire 2856 in 1998, and the most recent being an HP Pavilion dv2911us in 2009. When Dad first bought the Acer for $400, I was a bit ecstatic, and when Dad bought our own (slower) PC my sis and I today called Cyrix for around $100, we were like, "Finally, our own computer!" Transferred over 150 MB of our Windows games using floppy disks, running up and down the stairs in the process, because Acer was downstairs, and Cyrix was upstairs. Great times.
