Sissy Analyzes Random Things: The Not So Random Order of Cyber Brawl/Cosmic Carnage
--
Damn it. I seriously cannot let this game go.
So, what spurred this idiotic investigation?
Long story short, I remembered DNO's playthrough of Cyber Brawl, where he used Jake. On a whim, I decided to watch another playthrough that also used Jake. I did not tally that run in my first investigation, since it was a no damage run.
As I came to watch it... I realized that the order of characters happen to be battled in a set order. It's just that the first character that you fight is random.
At first, I thought that the characters were set depending on who you play as, but it turns out that it was not the case.
----
For this list, Cyber Brawl names come first, followed by their Cosmic Carnage
names. Remember that Naruto is the only one without a name change. Also note
that single player mode doesn't have mirror matches, so take the character that
you're going to use out of the list.
(For example: If you're going to play as Bolt/Talmac, you'll fight Ray/Zena-Lan,
then Karl/Tyr... well, unless you battled Karl/Tyr first, which would make
Ray/Zena-Lan your last battle.)
The order of characters are:
Jake/Cylic
Wishbone/Yug
Ray/Zena-Lan
Bolt/Talmac
Karl/Tyr
Stere/Naja
Naruto
Finisher/Deamon
----
Note that you will not always battle Jake/Cylic first if you're not playing as him. I only put him first because that's who the default cursor for both players lands on when you begin. For example, you might start off battling Naruto if you time the character selection correctly. The CPU cursor moves clockwise when you begin, then follows the set order listed above.
Even with all of that, there's only one thing that's random, and that's if
the top row characters are going to use all light or all heavy armor pieces.
They do not customize their movesets, so plan and prepare accordingly.
(For a stupid fun fact: You only need two out of three armor pieces selected for
a top row character's music to change into their "Fully Armored" theme.)
Okay, seriously, this better be the last time I end up investigating this game, because if I end up discovering something else, I'm going to be angry at myself for it.
