Sissy Analyzes Random Things: The Cody Rhodes Championship Belt...?

--

Adrenaline, in my soul...

Something, something, Cody Rhodes...

Oh, good gravy. The wrestling community literally tore itself apart and set itself alight after the Christmas Day episode of AEW Rampage, didn't it? Yeah, on the surface, a popular babyface got buried and the crowd literally booed the piss out of the man who is somehow getting a third run of the TNT Championship that he doesn't need or deserve. Yeah, boo his ass! Fuck that guy!

But hear me out, though. There have to be nods to how this current turn of events has to be going. Right?

Right?

Good lord, I hope so.

Now, there's been a super slow burn of the current TNT title holder allegedly turning heel sometime in the near future. It's been teased to hell and back, but the trigger hasn't been pulled yet. The most recent hints involved the previous holder. Since the TNT belt serves as an open challenge fiasco, Cody decided to challenge Sammy Guevara for the title... and almost exited through the tunnel that is used for heels.

(For those who don't know about AEW's tunnels, there are two of them. Heels (the bad guys) enter and exit from the left, faces (the good guys) enter and exit from the right. The only exception is Cody... who enters from the middle in a super long elevator entrance. There's also an exeption with Jon Moxley, who enters via the crowd... but it's Mox. He does that to avoid being attacked by anyone who tries to cheapshot him from behind.)

Now, there's been an analysis of Cody's fall from grace from being the top babyface to the most polarizing man in All Elite Wrestling, so use these two videos from Tranquilo Club to get you started. (Here's Part 1 and Part 2.)  As of this writing, the current top babyface is also the current World Champion. And he's also had a slow burn storyline that paid off after two years. We watched him literally gain the self-esteem and courage to get that belt around his waist.

However... we also know that the champion is not going to remain the champion forever.

From that brief period of November 13 to December 25, 2021, two of my favorite wrestle boys were holding the World Championship and the TNT Championship at the same time. I ended up with a bit of a mantra...

"When Sammy loses his belt, I will cry. When Hangman loses his belt, I will die."

I know I'm not literally going to die when the World Champion title changes hands, but I'm just preparing for that day. Enjoy it while it lasts and all of that stuff. Ironically, I didn't cry when Sammy got dethroned... it was actually a mixture of me screaming "What the fuck!" and laughing loudly at all the booing in the audience. But that loss still stung. To be fair, the fact that it took three finishers for Sammy Guevara to finally lose? Never underestimate that dude.

Anyway. We've all noticed the 2015-ish Roman Reigns style heat that he's currently getting. But here's a key difference...

We were forced to cheer for Reigns back then. The character of Cody Rhodes thinks that he's getting cheered. He thinks that he should get the belt for a third time. Also, note that he held the belt upside-down, which probably is another hint right there.

And if the slide continues... he'll fully enter the delusion that he thinks that he's still the top face of the company when he isn't.

Which means that in this slowly sliding delusion, he'll go back on his promise to never aim for the World Championship.

And once again... who is holding the title at this moment?

The current top babyface... "Hangman" Adam Page.

Burying Sammy was only a start. It might get worse.

Watch your back, cowboy.

We'll also need to watch our own backs. We might end up being punished because we were chanting "Cowboy Shit!" all this time, too.

(December 28, 2021 Update: Uh... I didn't know that there was a Part 3 when I was writing this. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with these thoughts.)
