Beep Code 4-3-4-3 or 1-3-3-1
Replace memory

CPU temperature sensors
CPU 0 = U5E1, CPU 1 = U7E2

Hard drive LED not showing on front panel
Connect a two-pin connector to the pins on the board marked - and +. Connect a four-pin the header "Hard Drive LED"

Intel® PDS service fails to start
Enable the Windows NT* Messenger service.

IRQ conflict between LAN adapter and the Mylex controller or other adapters
Use the SCU (System Configuration Utility RLX_SCU.EXE) to assign the IRQs.

Processor Board Controller
The PBC monitors processor voltage levels, processor thermal trip, and internal error signals. The electrical implementation and PBC terminology were mirrored from the Intel® B440FX DP Server product. There is no processor board on the Intel® R440LX DP Server

Last Known Issues
For issues installing Microsoft Office* 97, install patch 7800wnt.exe for Microsoft Windows NT* from the Adaptec website
BIOS is not I2O capable
Board does not support infrared
Hard drives are not supported in the external peripheral bay
When performing a BIOS recovery there will be no video, but a single beep and a flickering floppy light indicate the process has begun. Two beeps and no more floppy activity indicates success.
The system may fail to boot if the 12V line ramps to 5V before the 5V line fully ramps. Press Reset if this occurs
To disable chassis intrusion, move the chassis intrusion detection jumper from its default position of 9-10 to position 10-11
The SCSI host adapter is actively terminated. Do not connect internal and external SCSI devices at the same time.

SCSI Device deactivations when transferring large blocks of files (1GB+)
"Jumper all drives for SCSI-bus termination Disable tagged command queuing in STARTUP.NCF on the AIC7870.DSK load statement; tag_disable=ffff Disable scatter-gather; io_combine=1"

Slow single beep with no memory installed
Replace Processor

What is PFC?
Power Factor Correction is a requirement in Japan and most European countries, and is implemented with the power supplies

Where do I get the second serial port connector cable?
Foxconn part number FJ09635-00.

Regulatory Information
The Intel® R440LX Server Board meets the FCC requirements for Class A verification, which meets the needs of equipment used in commercial environments.

Why are there 2 Power Supply connectors
The main power supply can be monitored by LANDesk Server Manager 3.0, and connects to the 275W power supply with the Intel® Columbus II Server Chassis. The other standard ATX 2.01 connector is for other ATX chassis.

Compatibility
Tested Chassis
When using the Intel® Columbus II chassis, connect Main Power, Aux Power, and front panel to the board

Tested Hardware and Operating Systems
Set 'Plug and Play OS' to No in the BIOS when using Microsoft* Windows NT
SCO Open Server* Release 5.0.0 may require a keyboard patch
NT 4.0 may require Extended BIOS Translation for DOS Drives > 1 Gbyte. Use Ctrl-A to enter the SCSI BIOS setup, then Configure/View Host Adapter Settings | Advanced Configuration Options
The Intel® R440LX Server Board supports the UltraDMA hard drive protocol. However, Intel recommends using SCSI-2 hard drives for server systems rather than IDE drives.

Tested Memory
The Intel® R440LX Server Baseboard supports four dual in-line memory module (DIMM) sockets, up to 512 MB of SDRAM. The BIOS will automatically detect the memory type, size, and speed. Supported configurations are 168-pin DIMMs with gold-plated contacts, unbuffered 66MHz 72bit with ECC SDRAM DIMMs, 3.3v, single or double-sided DIMMs

Tested Processors
Supports 233 MHz, 266 MHz, 300 MHz or 333 MHz with 512 KB of integrated L2 cache.
For 233 MHz, move the CPU Clock Enable (CLK-EN) jumper J3J1 to Enable (position 2-3), set the CPU Speed Setting in the BIOS, power off, and reset the jumper to 1-2
A single processor requires a 250W power supply. Dual processors requires 275W minimum.
If two processors are installed and the processor designated as the boot strap processor (BSP) fails to complete the boot process, FRB attempts to boot the system using the alternate processor. If the alternate processor is functional, the system will boot. FRB jumper position 5-6 enables FRB. Position 6-7 disables FRB
To upgrade from one processor to two, F2 | BIOS | Server | System Management | CPU Slot2 presence | Enable
