Emergency Management Port Configuration and Operating Summary

EMP "Always active" mode
EMP can be configured for modem mode and either "always active" or "pre-boot only" in BIOS set-up. In "always active" mode, COM2 is not available to the OS. EMP will answer all calls to a modem connected to COM2. In "pre-boot only" mode, EMP will only be active while powered down, and during POST; making COM2 and the modem available to the OS.

Error codes beginning with 810x: CPU 1 disabled
The error code may be 8101, 8104, 8106, 810C, 810D, 810E, or 810F, and followed by one or more of:
CPU 0 disabled, or CPU 1 disabled;
System in uniprocessor mode
CPU 0 Failed FRB level 3 timer failed, or CPU 1 Failed FRB level 3 timer failed
To fix:
Press F2 to enter BIOS, and select Server Menu | Processor Retest
If no VRM module is installed, install then clear the NVRAM

Issues installing Microsoft Windows NT* Server 4.0
Ensure that any LVD drives are terminated. The boxed board shipped with a SCSI cable with an LVD terminator.
Install from the 3 floppy disks, not the CD ROM.
When asked for Mass Storage Devices, select S and manually load the SCSI driver and/or the IDE CD ROM
Do not autodetect the NIC. If using the integrated LAN, manually load the driver. The integrated LAN controller can also be disabled via the System Setup Utility (SSU)

Maximum Amperage for PCI Cards
8amps at 5V (33Mhz) and 2.1amps at 3V (66Mhz).

Microsoft Windows* 98 hangs
After installation, go to Device Manager | System Devices | PCI Bus | IRQ Steering and uncheck "Use IRQ Steering option"
Reboot, and install network, SCSI, and video drivers.
If USB shows an exclamation mark, remove it and reboot. The USB hub or root should be redetected properly

Mouse pointer looks like a 1/2" square
If the mouse pointer looks like a 1/2" square, you cannot set the resolution properly, or there are thin lines throughout the display, use XFree86 3.3.6 or later and add "VideoRam 2048" and "option sw_cursor" to the /etc/X11/XF86Config file | Device | Cirrus Logic 5480
The graphical installation will remain unusable. Install in TEXT Mode.
The onboard video RAM chips for previous boards were a pair of 1MB chips. The newer boards use a single 2MB chip. The video chipset does not report the new memory size properly.

Ultra2 Termination Requirement
Ultra2 (sometimes known as LVD) SCSI hard drives do not have onboard termination. When using LVD hard drives, an active LVD terminator is required to properly terminate the SCSI bus. This terminator may either be external at the end of the cable, or built-in to a backplane device. A SCSI bus requires termination at both ends of the bus. The Ultra2 channel on the Intel® L440GX+ baseboard is properly terminated. The SCSI backplane on the Intel® Astor II chassis provides the correct onboard termination, and properly terminates the SCSI bus.
