What Getting the Logo Means

[This is preliminary documentation and subject to change.]

The Designed for Microsoft® Windows® Logo program was developed by Microsoft to help end-users easily identify desktop hardware and software products that are adapted specifically to run properly on Microsoft® Windows® 98 and Microsoft® Windows NT®  5.0 Workstation (hereafter referred to as Windows NT).

Users can mix and match hardware and software products that display the Designed for Microsoft Windows Logo and be assured that the products take advantage of the new technologies integrated into both of the Windows operating systems. As a software vendor, licensing the Logo enables you to use the Logo on your product packaging, advertising, collateral, and other marketing materials. This signals customers that your product has the following characteristics:

A Tested Product
Your product has been tested and is fully functional on both Windows NT and Windows 98.
Provides Best User Experience
Your product is designed to provide optimum usability and to ensure a consistent, accessible user experience.
Works Well with Other Applications
Your product has been designed to take advantage of the latest software and hardware technologies available on Windows NT and Windows 98.
Runs on the Latest Versions of Windows NT and Windows 98
Your application runs equally well on Windows 98 and Windows NT. For more information, see the guideline.
