Audio Codecs

The following codecs are installed when you load the Microsoft NetShow tools.
Codec Description
FhG MPEG Layer-3 The MPEG Layer-3, which is created by FhG, is a high-fidelity mono audio codec that is a particularly good codec for CD-quality audio for an intranet or the Internet. MPEG Layer-3 comes with several formats depending on the network bandwidth you've chosen.
Lernout & Hauspie (L&H) The L&H codec is designed for use as a low bit rate (preferably voice-quality) codec. This codec has only one setting, which means that it compresses everything to 4.8 kbps. Audio compressed this small is not going to have the richness associated with CD-quality audio, but certain types of audio such as someone talking or running dialog will sound good because the codec was designed to work best with less dynamic audio sources. Use this codec when you want to have a lot of bandwidth left for sending other types of information across the network such as video, images, or script commands.
Voxware The RT24 is a 2.4 kbps codec, which is great for voice-only audio tracks. At 2.4 kbps, the RT24 compresses audio smaller than any of the other codecs installed with the NetShow tools. There are also other better-sounding Voxware codecs that are installed; these codecs range are (from lower quality to better quality) AC8. AC10, AC18, AC20, and AC24
Vivo G.723.1 The G.723.1 codec is good for creating .asf files or ASF streams for use over an intranet.
