The ASF Editor

The ASF Editor is the most flexible of all the .asf file creation tools. Unlike other .asf creation tools that convert an existing file or live source into .asf files, the ASF Editor encapsulates several types of media into an .asf file. However, the ASF Editor's best feature is its ability to set a target bit rate for the .asf file. By setting the target bit rate, the ASF Editor helps you maximize the amount of information that you can put into an .asf file. The ASF Editor supplies predefined bit rates of 14.4, 28.8, and 112.5 kbps, but also lets you define your own bit rate if your network isn't one of the predefined sizes. The ASF Editor can also use codecs to compress image and audio files, which make it easier to condense various media files so they'll fit in the target bandwidth. The ASF Editor will not let you build an .asf file that is too big for your target bandwidth.

Use the ASF Editor to take source files such as images and audio, and combine them with URLs and script commands. With this combination of media you can create dynamic, fully interactive files that can take a user anywhere on the Internet or an intranet. The ASF Editor cannot accept stored or live video as a source. If you want to use .avi or .mov files to create .asf files, use VidToAsf. If you want to use live video to create .asf files, use the ASF Real-Time Encoder.
