Storing .asf Files on NetShow Server

After you create .asf files, in order to stream them, you must place them on NetShow or HTTP Server. It is suggested that you place them on NetShow Server because only there do you receive all the Active Streaming format functionality. HTTP Server can stream .asf files; however, the HTTP server cannot duplicate all the functionality of a NetShow Server.

In order to create Web-page links to the .asf files, it is suggested that you place your .asf files in the NetShow Server content directory. NetShow Server looks in its content directory for the .asf file to stream when it receives a request. To understand which directory is the content directory, click Set Publishing Points on the NetShow Administrator Web page. For more information on virtual roots and the directory where you should place your .asf files for streaming, see the NetShow System Administration Guide.

Use either File Manager or Windows Explorer to add, copy, move, or remove an .asf file from NetShow Server or a local drive.
