Multicast Content

Use live ASF streaming to deliver audio, video, and .asf files to a viewer's desktop. For example, you can multicast a CEO's speech over the corporate network to all employees. The only limitations on live ASF streaming are those presented by the network bandwidth.

You multicast audio and video by feeding the signal into the audio or video capture card on the ASF Real-Time Encoder. The Real-Time Encoder delivers the encoded information to a NetShow Channel Manager, which multicasts a live ASF stream. As with .asf files, live ASF streaming must be restricted to the size of the network. In the case of live ASF streaming, the Real-Time Encoder uses codecs during the encode process to make the outgoing ASF stream small enough to stream across the network. For more information on using the Real-Time Encoder to stream information, see the online Help file or see the ASF Real-Time Encoder section later in this chapter.
