HTTP Streaming

You can unicast Active Streaming format streams using the HTTP protocol with NetShow. Using HTTP allows clients to receive streams across a network firewall.

If you decide to use HTTP streaming, you should not run an HTTP server, for example Microsoft Internet Information Server, and NetShow Server on the same computer.

By default, HTTP streaming is disabled. To enable HTTP streaming, you must start the Windows NT Registry Editor and change the setting for HTTP streaming. Then stop and restart the NetShow Unicast service.

To enable HTTP streaming

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.

The Run dialog box is displayed.

  2. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.

    Registry Editor starts.

  3. In Registry Editor, use the tree view to navigate through the following path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nsunicast\parameters

  4. To display the list of registry keys, click the parameters folder.
  5. In the Name column, click EnableHTTPStreaming.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  7. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
  8. Close Registry Editor by clicking Exit on the Registry menu.

  10. In Control Panel, double-click Services.
  11. In the Services dialog box, click NetShow Unicast Manager, and then click Stop.
  12. In the Stopping dialog box, click OK.
