Multicasting Stored WAV RTP Audio

Use the following steps when creating a program that multicasts audio stored as a .wav file over RTP.

The illustration shows NetShow Server and the HTTP server on separate computers. For RTP multicasts, all software can run on a single computer.

  1. Store the .wav file on the NetShow server.
  2. On NetShow Server, start NetShow Administrator, connect to the server you want to manage, and then use Manage Programs to create a program. Add a stored .wav file stream to the program by specifying a name for it and other properties, including the file location, the destination IP address and port, and the scope of the multicast.

For more information, see Creating a Program and Adding an RTP WAV Audio File to a Program.

  3. Create a Web page that includes the RTP audio player, Nsrtpaud.ocx. When you create the Web page, specify the multicast address to which the client computer listens, as well as the sound format used for audio compression. Store the Web page in the appropriate publishing point on the HTTP server to make it available to clients.

For more information, see the NetShow Client SDK.

  4. Using Manage Programs, start the program to begin the multicast.

For more information, see Starting and Stopping a Program.

  5. Clients can now listen to the multicast by retrieving the Web page with the embedded control.
