The Update 8 Errata kernel is 2.4.21-47.0.1. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Download the .tgz file to a directory on your hard drive. NOTE: If the downloaded file ends in anything other then .tgz, rename the file to xw_alsa_audiosupport_SP34613.tgz 2. Unpack the .tgz file by using the following command: 'tar -xvzf xw_alsa_audiosupport_SP34613.tgz'. 3. Change to the 'xw_alsa_audiosupport_SP34613' directory. 4. Change to the appropriate RPMS directory, as indicated in the following list: - To install the SoftPaq on a xw9400 workstation using the i386 architecture, change to the 'RPMS/xw9400/32bit/' directory. 5. Once in the correct directory for your platform and architecture, execute the following commands to install several rpm packages. Choose the set of commands that is appropriate for your architecture: - To install on the x86 architecture, execute the following commands, in order: 'rpm -ivh alsa-driver-1.0.11-1_xw9400errata.i386.rpm' 'rpm -ivh alsa-lib-1.0.9-1_xw9400errata.i386.rpm' 'rpm -ivh alsa-utils-1.0.9a-1_xw9400errata.i386.rpm' 6. Run 'alsamixer' to unmute the 'Aux-In', 'iSpeaker' channels. Also unmute 'front' and 'mono' if they show up on your workstation. Use the 'm' key to unmute/mute each channel and use the up/down left/right arrow keys to adjust volume and move from one channel to the next. If using 'alsamixer' generates an error, then run 'alsaconf' and follow the instructions, accepting the default choices, and then run 'alsamixer' again.
