DESCRIPTION:
This package contains an updated System BIOS release for the HP Workstation 
xw8400, packaged in a way that is easily usable within a Linux operating system 
environment. 

NOTE: To determine the BIOS family and BIOS date, press F10 on the target 
workstation during Power On to run the Computer Setup Utility, and then select 
File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file on a 
diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette. In 
order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the workstation, the 
device must be attached before the workstation is Powered On.

ENHANCEMENTS: 
Enhancements since BIOS version 01.13:

- Adds microcode support for new CPU steppings. 
- Improves non-fatal error messages to provide more specific information.
- Adds an option to the Computer Setup Utility (F10) that suppresses the F1 
boot prompt on recoverable non-fatal errors.
- Improves fan control and acoustic performance. 
- Incorporates Intel memory reference code version 1.10.

FIXES: 
- Eliminates possible incorrect fan control following a resume from Standby 
mode.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 
LINUX USERS: After downloading the SoftPaq file, verify that the SoftPaq file 
has a .tgz extension. If it does not, change it to .tgz. Some browsers 
automatically rename the file with a .tar extension, which makes the SoftPaq 
unusable. 

1. Download and extract the .TGZ file. For example, to extract the contents, at 
console prompt type (where ''filename'' is replaced by the name of the file to 
be extracted): 
''tar -xzvf filename.tgz''
